Pitching Staff
Hello again everyone. With the Ben Sheets talks over the Rangers pitching staff is becoming a little more clear has we approach spring training. Here’s my projected opening day rotation with ’08 stats.
1-Kevin Millwood (9-10, 5.07)
2-Vicente Padilla (14-8, 4.74)
3-Matt Harrison (9-3, 5.49)
4-Brandon McCarthy (1-1, 4.09)
5-Scott Feldman (6-8, 5.29)
Not exactly going to put the fear in most lineups is it?
I really like Matt Harrison though. There hasn’t been much talk about him this off season. I feel like he could be a surprise this year and put up some pretty good numbers instead of just being an innings eater.
Other stuff:
- Lefty reliever Eddie Guardado signed a one-year Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training. He’ll be back in his role as a setup man in the late innings. I’m not sure how much he has left in the tank at his age (39). He was 3-3 with a 3.65 ERA in 55 games for the Rangers last year before being dealt to the Twins late in the season.
- Weekday Ranger radio broadcasts will move from KRLD 1080 am to “The Fan” 105.3 fm. Weekend games will remain on KRLD. This isn’t good news for some of us up here in Central Oklahoma. I’ve tried picking up “The Fan” and where I live the reception stinks. Oh well, I usually watch 95% of the games on t.v. anyway. It’s just nice to know you have a backup and Eric Nadel is one of the best play-by-play announcers in baseball.
Only eight days until pitchers and catchers report to camp.
Rangers Unveil New Uniforms
The Rangers unveiled new uniforms for the 2009 season last week. Most Ranger fans like the red uniforms the team wore back in the 90′s. Well, they are back sort of. Blue is still the primary color but the alternate jersey will be red.
I must say that I am not and never was a fan of the red uniforms. The team wore similar red tops back in the mid 80′s. I remember Doug Rader who was the manager during that time saying they looked like “moving blood clots.” I couldn’t agree more.
Check out the new batting helmets. Oh my gosh, they are brutal!! What’s worst is this isn’t an alternate helmet. They will be wearing these helmet for every game home and road.
I feel like calling the Rangers front office and telling them the local girls softball team called and they want their batting helmets back.
First Post
Hello and welcome to my corner of the baseball world. I am a huge and frustrated Rangers fan. I have been to every Rangers home opener since they moved to Arlington from Washington back in 1972.
I remember the days of Jeff Burroughs, Mike Hargrove, Toby Harrah, Fergie Jenkins, the “Turnaround Gang,” Billy Martin, David Clyde, the Oklahoma Curveballer, and Bobby Valentine.
I enjoy talking about Rangers history.
I have been through all the ups and down (mostly down) with this team. I’m hoping that one day, one day the Rangers will be able to get past the Yankees in the playoffs and ultimately win a World Series.
With the start of the 2009 season a little over two months away I will try to add my thoughts on the Rangers throughout the season and maybe take a trip down memory lane every once in a while.
Go Rangers!
